When sentient enough to think and be in a decent mood, I've been feeling really good lately ;) Changed, in a good way. I finally feel like an adult, in a good way ;) Less angsty, more... at peace.
Maybe because I'm in a life path that I accept. The baby of course, and things with the community are going... well! ;)
I'm still rather dazed about the later part: it was one month, one week, and one day ago when I was feeling on the verge of giving up. Now we have a full house and our escrow closes in a couple of weeks!
Also nice that P and I decided to take over both of our units from the start and rent out a third for a year. We get to keep
krchicken and have plenty of space. w00t! :)
Of course, I still probably have as much angst as many teenagers, just a lot less than I used to ;)

I haven't wanted to update about the apartment progress because there's been a lot up in the air, but I think we've got enough nailed down to warrant some words ;)

We had much contention over the lovely "owners units*" early on. Patri and I want to combine two units to make room for our brood as it expands, so given the way the place is set up, we thought that the owners unit and the top unit behind it were the only reasonable choice for us, but other people liked that unit so much that they decided they were willing to buy me an elevator if it would convince us to take the two top units instead, so we been bought ;) As cute as the owners units are, we'd like everyone to get a unit they're happy with and I can't resist the notion of having my own personal elevator ;) **
There was then more stress when we realized that elevators cost much more than we originally thought. The web paged Patri found advertised 20-37k for all the costs of an elevator, but when I called to ask them about finding an architect, I learned that this was just the "cost for the elevator," which does not include the shaft or wiring, which generally cost more than the elevator car itself, and that was just one of the issues.
However,
avani found companies selling personal wheelchair lifts, and it sounds like those would be fine for our purposes and run in the range we were originally hoping for, including covering if we want it, and we shouldn't need to hire an architect and contractor and may not even need a permit. Peter and I will be meeting with the seller for an estimate tomorrow.
We're currently working on finalizing our financial structures and bylaws, along with tons of less urgent tasks like having termite work, wiring replaced, and many minor things taken care of. It looks like some of us may be able to move in as early as December although a few are waiting until around April or so, so I'm not sure when we'll be having the housewarming party, we'll keep you posted ;)
*The owners units are larger and a bit nicer, with some wood flooring and other flourishes.
**Ideally it won't actually be my own private lift for long, once we're settled in we'll start working on building a large second story balcony :)
