Hacksaw & Power Drill Fun

One reason that my shoulders are out of whack is that my desk was too high. I love my minimalist white Ikea desk. I'm also proud of how I've moved the paperwork and supplies vertical, complete with matching cube and rectangle surfaces, so that I can keep the surface nice and uncluttered.

Hence, I haven't brought myself to get rid of it and have been in denial about how bad it is on my shoulders for several months. It is probably the most significant contributor to my bad shoulders, despite my blaming it on weight lifting...

Anyway, I chopped off about six inches today. The cut is a hack job done with a hack saw, but otherwise the modifications came out pretty well and the desk looks as minimalist as ever. I doubt anyone's going to look at the bottom edge of my desk leg unless they've read this journal ;)

It looks really funny that short, but it feels so much better! Here's a look at how much I chopped off. Initially the top of the desk was in alignment with the shelf above it:

And in case you've ever wondered, this is what the inside of an Ikea desk looks like, yes, thats corrugated cardboard...
