*Anyway,* thus far, touring London has been fun, and today Rebecca has promised that we're going to go check out the fancy place to go clothes shopping followed by the reasonable priced place, and we're going to look at another fancy store that actually sells chandeliers, which should be especially good for my research :)

Birthday Smash Hit

This year we made up for missing Tovar's first couple of birthdays by having an all out double birthday extravaganza. He had one party in the morning which several community people attended and [info]tigresa and family, and then a second after-nap birthday party.

The second party was huge, 30-40 people for a 3 yr old's birthday party! We had two sets of grandparents, several friends from Tovar's school, several friends of the family, some friends that I don't get to see very often ([info]is2disney), I got to finally meet [info]capitalism_yeah, and Tovar's NICU doctor came!!!! I love that woman :)

And the day didn't stop there. After the 2nd party, we went to dinner with my folks and were joined by [info]xleste, then we went home and the Baker-Malones came over, and then Tovar and I headed over to [info]tigresa's party across the way.

Tovar, being an extroverted three year old who likes sugar and toys, was in heaven :)

I was proud of my party throwing skills. It was the first time I'd hung streamers since I was a kid myself, Tovar loved the balloons that I picked out, and I felt that I did a good job hostessing, I hardly sat down during party # 2. I was very grateful for [info]beth_leonard's help when it came to cake cutting organization.

I can't resist a chance to visit the fabulous [info]chrysarose and to wear the Alice costume that I made back in the day. Unfortunately, it seems that I've lost the apron that I made. Being Chrysa, [info]chrysarose had a spare one in her closet! Lose an apron gain an apron :)

Here are the daytime pics from my camera, plus one shot of my fabulous face paint at night (at the very end) by [info]browascension. I'll post more as soon as I get them from him and [info]anahas ;)

I was trying to get pictures of everyone who showed up, but I'm sure I missed a few (Linda, Lisa, [info]elphie,...), and once evening hit I got distracted and know I missed a lot of people. James estimated that we had around 150 show. Based on my impression from ABL parties, that sounds about right to me. However, if anyone is bored and feels like going through the pictures and counting, I'd love to hear the number you come up with for our daytime count ;)

I had a fabulous weekend visiting for [info]furfybird's birthday, getting to see lots and lots of cool ljers ;)

And, we saw Steven Hawking! Thanks to [info]lightling for the pic of me on the hike, and to [info]mhat for the excellent picture framing, Steven Hawking between the belly dancer and I, just as requested ;) I'm a little bummed that I didn't work up the confidence to talk to him, but figured its probably better not to bother him ;)

I'm sorry that furf wasn't feeling well over the weekend, but it was great seeing her, as with everyone else, and the hot boy to flirt with wasn't bad either ;)

Pic by [info]arcanepackrat with excellent photoshopping by Anna ;)

We decided to dress up for the movie, and I was impressed by how well we all did just with what was in our closets :) Anna's shirt vest was fabulous, and Dawn was lovely as always ;) The shirt I'm wearing was given to me by my friend Deanna back in high school, I've always loved it, it was cool seeing Kaylee wearing the same one in the last Firefly episode ;)

It was also amusing running around the theater in costume, both in group and alone. The girls in the bathroom didn't seem sure whether they thought the pregnant Kaylee thing was cool or just too weird ;) At first I was bummed that I hadn't thought to bring hair gel for Patri to make him look more Simon-like, but but then decided that Simon with the crazy hair matched well with knocked up Kaylee ;)

Swing Dancing Camp

[index] Monday, November 01, 2004 - Swing Dancing Camp

For Halloween weekend, [info]jhogan, [info]loyale, [info]tigresa, and I went to a swing dancing camp in the middle of a Northern California Forest.

It was quite fun. Some highlights:

  • the instructors were careful to get a completely balanced ratio of women and men. Unfortuantely we were a little follow heavy because around 30% of the camp was gay, and many of the men wanted to be follows ;)
  • trying to remember which women were leads in order to find dancing partners ;)
  • [info]tigresa and I flirting with the hot lesbians ;)
  • I can now Lindy Hop without thinking too much about the basic footwork ;)
  • we all improved drastically in our dancing
  • my being in love with my red dress and [info]tigresa being in love with her stockings ;) (I went shopping at a dance store to buy a dress for my recital, because I wanted something which drapped well on the piano bench. Unsurprisingly, it was also wonderful for dancing in ;)
  • slow dancing with the sexy gay guy (all the fun of stripping without all of the negatives... except that its much harder to dance sexy in the way that I'm used to when having to remember footwork and the pole is moving ;)
  • watching people steam when they stood outside after dancing (it was particularly amusing watching the explosion of steam when a guy with a shaved head took off his hat ;)
  • getting [info]loyale hooked on speed scrabble ;)
  • arriving tired, getting some sleep Friday night, then staying out dancing until 3am dancing on Saturday, getting up early Sunday, and leaving tired ;)
  • [info]jhogan, [info]loyale, [info]tigresa and I playing Settlers of Catan travel edition at 4am after having danced all day long ;)
  • dance classes all day long and a wide variety to choose from :)
  • dancing with amazing partners
  • the talent show: the performers really were talented! Some excellent opera singing, jazz piano playing, dancing, and comedy skits
  • watching the instructors dance
  • [info]loyale and [info]tigresa letting me steal their camera frequently and take as many pictures as I wanted ;)

Floating Homes Pictures

[info]patrissimo, [info]frogpyjamas and I went on the floating homes tour this past Sunday. I've been taking far fewer pictures lately, as I've been spending more time getting into the moment and less in documentary mode, but with all the neat architecture and art around it was quite fun to be hanging back with my camera while listening to the banter of my friends :) Pictures by me except for the one by [info]frogpyjamas ;)

Flipside

[index] Thursday, June 03, 2004 - Flipside

Flipside was a wonderful, encompassing, sensual,
and communal experience.

Its too much to write about, but as friends did, I
will make a few notes:

  • Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. Burner
    style. Wow.
  • the beautiful coat, which my camp mates spent so
    much effort working on
  • Camping with old friends whom I miss and were
    wonderful, and with new
friends who are also great and incredibly welcoming.
  • Getting to talk with [info]paniolo99 on the
    car rides, even though
she did an excellent job of hiding during most of the
    event ;)
  • Wearing the fairy dress that V made for me :)
  • people's amazement at my tinny tiny tent ;)
  • Camping next to the sex noise dome ;)
  • Playing speed scrabble while listening to sex
    noise ;)
  • Robot sex ;)
  • Finding [info]zuleikhajami at night by her
    laugh, and then finding
[info]furfybird at night by her outline, despite
having never met her in person before! :)
  • Up all night talking with furfybird, she's the
    sweetest thing ever :)
  • lounging under [info]tanjent's shade
    structure
  • slacking at the Kingdom of Slack
  • [info]6opou's funny accent :)
  • [info]webnesto's humor
  • Dory and friend singing and performing the Camel
    Toe song ;)
  • [info]nobodobodon playing the theremin
  • Seeing [info]reinaness in her lavendar
princess glory, and getting to hang out a little with
    [info]solractwin
  • hanging out with [info]tigresa's friends ;)
  • [info]foolmonkey being my flipside buddy :)
  • foolmonkey dancing capoiera
  • dancing with S
  • playing with peacock feathers
  • the threesome of well hung hot gay guys who hung
    out by the creek
  • the peacock feather hat ;)
  • [info]mhat and his glow in the dark balls ;)
  • contact juggling while dancing
  • the Chupacabra jesus commercial ;)
  • the amazing motion of the musician/dancers
  • climbing up the none too secure monkey ladder ;)
  • the cute little dogs :)
  • the free roaming camp site goat ;)
  • [info]tanjent lending me his very cool,
    lightweight headlamp
  • the monkey designed so that the arms would
    collapse inward
  • general warm, accepted, and enthralled feelings

This past weekend all of us living at [info]alpinebutterfly went on a kayaking excursion to Pt. Reyes. It was great to be outdoors in such a beautiful place with friends. Along with kayaking, we went for a hike along the beach, explored the tide pools, and stayed at a cute little casita ;) Read more... )
